Mere Green 0: Kewford Eagles 4

2 Oct 2016 by Chris Tidman

On a difficult pitch, Kewford turned in a commanding and stylish performance to take all 3 points against a committed Mere Green side. In a tight first half, Phippy could have put Kewford one up early doors but didn’t connect when a couple of yards out. Mere Green were dangerous from set plays and a fine free kick was deflected by Kevin towards the top corner, only for Tom to produce a flying fingertip save. On the stroke of half time, Kevin cut in from the left flank and stroked the ball low into the green corner. Half time 0:1
Mere Green were still battling hard despite not looking a threat going forward but the game was won when a reverse pass from Kevin put Ryan through on goal to dink the ball over the keeper. Kewford then started to dominate and Kim was then brought down in the box allowing Ben to convert the penalty. A free kick from the all action Tyrese was brought down by Chad in the box to rifle home the 4th. It could have been more with Ben trying to chip the keeper and a superb Callum AM free kick that went in but was ordered to be retaken due to the wall breaking too soon. A great team performance today – strong defensively and going forward but also patient when it was 0;0. Votes spread out for Chad, Elliott, the team, Morgan, Jakob, Kevin, Tom 3, Cameron 2 so motm goes to Mr Safe Hands Tom Slater.
