Kewford march on to semis with hard fought win at Leafield

9 Oct 2016 by Chris Tidman

Kewford gave a classy performance against a resilient and well organised Leafield to claim a deserved 2:0 victory. Kewford should have finished the game in the opening 30 mins when in total control with Ryan and Phippy linking well and going close but finding the keeper in fine form. As the half wore on, Leafield grew in confidence and the sides went in level despite Kewford dominance. Kewford came out of the traps quickly from the kick off and a brilliant run from Ryan ended with a right footed curler from outside the box that nestled in the top corner. Leafield now had to come out and attack which created space and Ryan then turned provider and Kevin broke through to drill home the second. To be fair, Leafield never gave up and the Kewford defence had to be strong to see out a lot of long balls and pressure, but on the break Kewford could and maybe should have added more with Jack, Harvey and Phippy all going close. A great advert for the CWFL and a game played competitively but in a good spirit. Kewford now march on into the semi finals and keep the unbeaten run going to 6 games. Strong performances all over the pitch with votes for Elliott(2) and Ben at the back, Cameron(2) and Chad(2) in midfield but with 6 votes, motm goes to Ryan Grovesnor for goal and assist against a packed defence but also work rate for the team.
